ENJOY A LOOK BACK INTO THE 20TH CENTURY IN THE MIDWEST OF AMERICA TODAY!
Are you looking for a memoir that is both touching and funny? This book tells the story of 2 generations of men who grew up in the same town just outside of Chicago. One grew up in the 40's and 50's during WWII and Elvis and the other grew up in the 70's and 80's during Vietnam and Disco. Their stories are similar, but the progression into another world is evident. As boys in a small town they talk about how important neighbors were, their bicycles, the local movie theater, and the town they loved - Barrrington, Illinois. Take a step back in time to the 20th century when there were no cell phones, computers, or video games like XBOX. The book comes complete with a description of the eras, popular toys of the times, songs that they sung on the school bus or at camp, and popular school yard games they played. Each man was active in his community because there was a lot to offer. It's a historical biography of a town that my not exist in today's world. This is a look back at a time when you could trust your neighbor and know they would never move away. For those of you who grew up in a small town or even a neighborhood in a city like this you can relate to the days when nobody locked their doors because trust was taken seriously. Trust got you a loan at the bank (not credit), and people were forced to get along just to get along. Ronald Dockery, the senior Dockery was a very successful business man and provided his family with a good life and his son reflects that, but emphasizes the lessons his Dad taught him. Enjoy this book today and you will not be disappointed.
