Madame Liberté

This is a wartime epic that sweeps from Scotland to France, Germany and America. It is a story of secrets, deception and honour which begins in 1978 in Edinburgh where young Daniel Mackenzie is trying to piece together his family history. All that his mother, Margo will tell him is that Françoise, his half English grandmother was nineteen when war was declared. Putting aside her ambition to become a doctor she was recruited into the French Resistance to escort escaped prisoners and men on the run through occupied France until she was executed in the last days of the war. But Daniel suspects that Margo is hiding a terrible secret of her own. He records a television war series and contacts the author of wartime escape stories to uncover the family history of bravery, deceit and treachery that binds together the French Cognac and Scottish Whisky families.
