The preacher begins the sermon by serving what is commonly known as the truth regarding our human makeup; Our Body, Soul and Spirit or Trichotomy. After the serving of 2 scriptural passages used to support this teaching the preacher then presupposes other biblical references to support the game, thereby winning the match. But the games intended victory is spoiled and far from over. The Trichotomist doesn't anticipate the referee of scriptural disclosure, which will call the serve, fault!

The problem with this presupposition is the two scriptures thought to be incidental to our human makeup.  They are not the passages incidental to our human makeup but rather make up part of the scriptural tradition and customary language used to identify and describe aspects of humanity. Our humanity begins with the book of Genesis and extrapolates throughout the Bible. I believe that the Trichotomist is scripturally out of bounds.

Therefore the purpose of this work is to clearly and scripturally demonstrate that we are not made up of three parts (trichotomy) but two (dichotomy). I am persuaded that visualising ourselves as separate states could result in restlessness and confusion. This teaching is not scriptural in any way shape or form and has flavours added from ancient Egypt, Persia and Greece. If we are going to bother the church with teachings about our make-up, let’s bring the biblical truth to the table. One living being; our spirit permeating every atom of the human body, the tangible and intangible combination forming one being described in the book of Genesis as a “Living soul”. Genesis 2:7
