DESCRIPTION:
Mandy is a barely legal girl caught in a mix of betrayal and confusion. Naïve and a bit too trusting, Mandy let a boy sexually experiment with her. Now, this innocent babysitter can’t move past the things she’s done. In this tale of teen angst and betrayal Mandy seeks to reconnect with her artistic talent and self-expression. Can her neighbor help Mandy move on to accept the things she’s done?
EXCERPT:
“We were goofin’ around with a couple other people, walking home from school, bumping shoulders and running. He bumped me hard and I tripped and he gave me his hand to pull me up, but he kept holding on to my hand. I didn’t mind, it was kinda nice. Then, it seemed like we were always holding hands when we walked.”
Mandy looked up to where Bonie was sitting in the chair, “Your eyes are open.”
“Sorry.”
“It’s okay. You don’t have to close them.”
“Okay.”
“You sure you wanna hear this?”
“You sure you wanna say this?”
Mandy laughed lightly, “I think I like you. Okay. Well, typical teenage thing I guess. Pretty soon he had his arm around my back as we walked home. That was okay, I put my arm around him and it felt good. But after a few days, he started moving his hand on my back, on bare skin, and it made me feel funny. So I told him to stop and he did, for a while. Then he started again and sometimes I would let him and sometimes not. The more I let him touch me, the more he tried. He would move his hand all the way up my back to my bra strap and all the way down to the top of my jeans.
“Then, when we were walking home, we saw someone kissing under a tree. We found our own tree and I let him kiss me. It was nice but kinda scary. Then, it seemed like he wanted to kiss every day, all the time. I walked home alone for a few days, but I missed him.
“So we started walking together again. One day, I don’t know how it happened, we were kissing under that same tree and he started touching my breasts and then we were on the ground and he was on top of me and I was feeling really crazy and just hanging on to him. He was bouncing around and saying he loved me and then he stopped and got all embarrassed and said he was sorry and got up and just ran away. I didn’t know what was going on. It was a week before we were walking together again.
“He kept trying to touch me, all over, I mean like he would slip his hand down my jeans and I would stop him. Then he would put his hand under my blouse and I would pull his hand away. But, ah, sometimes, ah, I wanted him to touch me and I would let him, just a little. I guess he thought I was teasing him, but I wasn’t, I don’t think, I just didn’t know what I wanted.”
“You should close your eyes again.”
Bonie smiled. “Okay....”
