India, 4th century BCE. In the city of Taxila a college professor sees his country under double threat: from the west Alexander Magnus advances with his army for the conquest of the whole region while in the east the cruel emperor Dhana Nanda approaches with the same objective.

Determined to protect his country, the pandit travels to Pataliputra, capital of the Nanda Empire, where he meets a young prince whose father was dethroned.

Written in a way that seeks to fill some gaps that often generate controversy among researchers, Maurya tells the story of the formation of one of the most powerful empires of antiquity, led by Kautilya, one of the greatest geniuses of politics, and his pupil Chandragupta.

Political intrigues, the legendary romance between Chandragupta and Durdhara and reports of battles (especially the Hydaspes Battle, featuring King Porus and Alexander the Great) are loaded with energy, historical details and even some cruelty, which often make the reader stand on the edge of the chair.
