The third book of the series "Theology in Public" presents the figure of St. Basil the Great, bishop of Caesarea, and his theological teaching.
In this book two texts are presented: the “Funeral Oration” of Gregory the Theologian, in which Basil’s life and personality is described, and Basil’s speech "On the mind thyself," which expounds his theological teaching.
In this book, Basil’s personality is portrayed by his friend and a great saint of the Church, Gregory the Theologian, after St. Basil’s repose. Then, the basic parts of Basil’s speech "On the ‘mind thyself’ ” are presented in modern language, keeping the style and structure of this speech. Finally, the basic theological teachings are analyzed in a more detailed manner.
In his speech "On the ‘mind thyself’", Basil, taking cue from a phrase in the Old Testament, namely Moses, analyzes all those points that describe how someone should pay attention to themselves and how this action will reveal God.
