Russia invades Ukraine. The United States, led by a newly installed right wing President, responds. These events result in a limited exchange of nuclear weapons and an effective return to the technology of the nineteenth century for the northern hemisphere.
An unstable Middle Eastern tycoon takes this opportunity to advance his own agenda as the United States and Russia become second class powers in the aftermath of the war.
On the world stage the story focuses on the main players in the destructive events that precipitate the war and the resulting devastation. A Navy Captain, saddled with a horrible responsibility, attempts to make sense of an unstable world and do his duty as an officer.
Additionally the story follows a small group of survivors in the southern USA who fight to make it in the dystopian world suddenly created by the turmoil. Fending off local gangs bent on their destruction as well as a military no longer controlled by a civilian leader, the group struggles to survive and become a part of the New World. Despite the isolation of the small campground they retreated to their close relationship with the Navy Captain causes them to be an integral part of the end game as the true apocalypse approaches.
