This pattern knits up into a lovely and stylish cloche cap or beanie. The cap is snug and warm as well as both soft and lightweight. It’s perfect for spring or fall weather. I’ve called it a Belt Loop because the garter stitches running through it appear to be a belt running through loops.

It seemed like the perfect cap to make for a mother and daughter, so the pattern contains a total of four different versions with varying dimensions and depths. In general, the child’s version is shallower and has narrower ribbing than the adult version. But, because you can mix and match the pattern elements, in effect, you end up with the possibility of four different hats.

  1. Daughter’s hat with 2” ribbing and shallow depth
  2. Daughter’s hat with 4” ribbing and shallow depth
  3. Mother’s hat with 2” ribbing and deeper depth
  4. Mother’s hat with 4” ribbing and deeper depth

Things to know about knitting this pattern:

The pictured child’s hat used a bit less than one skein (100 yards) of a lightweight cotton yarn. The adult hat pictured used a bit more than one skein of the same yarn. So, if you wish to make a pair of hats, 200 yards will get you ready to knit!

Size US 8 circular needles (16” long)

Size US 8 double pointed needle (dpn) – one set of five needles

Stitch marker(s)

Tapestry needle
