“I really am an angel sent from heaven, Ella.”
She jumped at the sound of her name. “You know who I am?”
“Of course. Heaven knows everything.”
Heaven? Seriously? “Uh, huh…”
“I’ve been sent to save you.”
He certainly looked like the heroic type and other than her initial fright, Ella felt no threat from him. “Save me?”
“Yes. I’ve been told you need help and Heaven is never wrong.”
Ella snorted at his words. “Oh, please, look at the state of the world. It’s Christmas and there is no peace on Earth. From what I can see heaven doesn’t do a lot to stop war and disease.”
“You’re a cynic.” Mathias looked amused.
“And a burglar’s opinion means what to me?”
Mathias walked over to her. “I’m not a burglar.”
Ella had to admit that as burglars went he didn’t fit her perception of one. “Mathias is it?” He nodded. “Okay, do something heaven-like.”
He laughed. “What did you have in mind?” Mathias stood in front of her now.
The sudden closeness of his body made her pulse race. Ella felt hot, needy and wet. It was not the reaction she usually got from any man. “I don’t know.” She was surprised how breathless she suddenly was. “Do something that’ll shock and awe me and make me believe.”
“What about this…” Mathias leaned in and kissed her.
