The story behind this book is very real and close to my family's heart. My husband’s brother was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma and passed away ten years ago. He was a first-grade teacher and was the person our kids looked up to the most. It was hard for them to understand how someone so healthy and vibrant and full of life could get so sick so fast and then leave them. As we all watched his health decline and his bubbly personality dwindle, our youngest began to ask questions. Our oldest was just mad. It had only been a year since he had lost his grandma. So I began to describe the heart like it was a person that worked hard to keep him with us . Finally, God speaks to the heart, telling it that it is ok to give him up. God would take him home to heaven and make him well again. This explanation was easier for them to grasp and seemed to suffice. And so began the journey to My Favorite Place to Be. My goal for this book is to help other children better understand and cope with losing a loved one. It's always been important to me that my kids know that when someone we love dies, it's not the last time we will ever see them. They take comfort in knowing that we will all be together someday in heaven, everyone's favorite place to be.
