The product they recorded throughout those treatments ultimately led to Furtado's promotion with DreamWorks Records (where she was signed by AandR exec Beth Halper). Eaton and West (recognized collectively as Track and Field) came on board as production partners.

The singer-songwriter grew up with lots of mainstream pop - Abba, Lionel Ritchie, Madonna, Paula Abdul - however in her formative years, she became obsessed on its urban manifestation. An infatuation with children Kris Kross led to an embrace of very early '90s RandB like New Edition, Bel Biv Devoe, Salt-N-Pepa and Jodeci. Furtado informs: "On my 12th birthday one of my buddies bought me a Mariah Carey tape."
