Synopsis

NEVERNESS

By Peter Fiocco

At one time, or no time, or neverness (the absence of time) all the ingredients of the universe were densely concentrated in one place. No one knows how or why it happened but the evolution clock started ticking when a tremendous explosion blasted everything outward in every direction at high velocity. In that unimaginable burst of energy, known as the Big Bang, some of those so-called ingredients, traveling for billions of years, passed through the ideal conditions needed to produce intelligent beings and a support system necessary to nourish them. This did not happen everywhere at the same time nor will it happen to all the star systems; some will never achieve that distinction and will become extinct before they have that opportunity. However, those that do survive will mature at varying times – some have already reached the ultimate state, the state of pure, intelligent energy and union with the universe. When a star system close to Capella (a giant, yellow binary star in the constellation Auriga) reached the end of its evolutionary string, its inhabitants left behind a species of super-intelligent beings. In their new form, they have tasked themselves with two main objectives: one, to discover the meaning of the universe and the conditions that existed before the Big Bang and two, to find or encourage the creation of others like themselves to assist them in their quest. These entities, known as the Travelers, do not require space ships to carry them to where they want to go; they are telepathic between their own kind and are therefore, here, there and everywhere all at once. In their search of the cosmos, they singled out Earth. They also singled out one earthling to be their agent. His name was Dominic and he was all of four years old when they began to prepare him – without his knowledge or consent.
