The pessimism to which they refer is still all too often characteristic of the attitude towards cancer and its treatment. The various chapters have been specially written for this monograph by specialists of international repute, and it will be noted that some of them were participants in the meeting of the WHO Expert Committee on Cancer Treatment mentioned above.
