As a refugee from Eastern Europe, after World War II, I was lucky to have been able to make my home in Australia, at age 16.
After 30 years of work, 3 sons and completing a B.A. Dip Ed. at Adelaide University, my husband and I visited our old homelands, that were under Communist rule at the time. On returning to Australia, I felt crushed by what I had seen, heard and observed. I started "scribbling" to get the poison of anger out of my system. Sarcasm, humour, laughter and cynicism reduced the pain and made me start writing.
I began tho look at politics in dictatorships and that made it obligatory to do the same for democracies; and then other memories of life and books surfaced from oblivion .(life, sorrow, aging, fate, encounters, preserving history in writing is like giving immortality to the character and events)
There are those who say that certain things never happened, but books are experiences memory chips.
Thoughts' energy is stored in books and readers free the trapped voices inside them.
