This book is something of a pot pouri, a relatively ordered amalgamation of all my recoverable literary output since 1971, a book that brings together essays spanning a period of more than forty years and stretching over a dozen subject areas from multiple perspectives, philosophical, theological, historical, cultural and pastoral, must indeed not hope to be any more than a set of roughly amalgamated essays and, in a way, that is what it is.
The categorization into subjects and sections as shown in the table of contents, is rather rough and often arbitrary, since, under “homilies”, one may encounter some theology whether of marriage, of the priesthood or of death; while under “culture” a lot of philosophy or politics or anti colonialism or anti – racism lurks just below the surface. There is certainly some aesthetics in the reflection on the Christmas flower, while discussion of education betrays concerns of both theological, philosophical and partly priestly/pastoral nature.
