This novel takes place in modern times in an undisclosed small Montana town with a mountain range and a white water river. As with much of Montana, the town is changing hands from the locals to the out-of-staters who want to develop the area. Enter sixteen-year-olds Eaton and Molly. They are best friends and have lived in the town their whole lives. While Eaton has a love and respect for the river through fly fishing, Molly persuades him to join her and hire on for the summer with a white water rafting company owned by a mysterious old man named Stuart WingRaven. All is not as it seems. The summer rapidly takes on a twist when Eaton becomes entangled in a two-hundred-year old Native American prophecy which had predicted the downfall of the mountain and of a boy who would come and save it. But that is not all Eaton must face. He also learns of a secret closely guarded by WingRaven, his family and the town.
