Overcoming at the Gate

This is a book on spiritual warfare. Whether we believe it or not, we are daily involved in spiritual struggle, warfare and fight, and we must overcome by His power and grace. Spiritual battle is daily raging over our lives, ministries, churches, families and communities.

A young Pastor told me the story of his church in Alimosho part of Lagos. He planted a church in a particular community in a leased apartment. He started services and in about 5 years, the church was attracting over 250 people. Things were going well and great. He had plans to purchase the leased property, until he came to church one day and discovered that burglars have broken into the church and stole the bell on the altar, plus his prayer mat or cloth.

He thought nothing of it until a week later that nobody turned up in the service. He visited their houses and everybody confessed that something removed the love of the church from their hearts. The Pastor tried all he could, people just stopped coming to church. In fact, he had to shut down that local church a year later, simply because he is not aware of the spiritual battle that every local church had to contend with in their host communities.

Here are factors that necessitate this third book on spiritual warfare, (the first one is "Spiritual Warfare for Church Growth" (2009); the second one is "Your Church, Your Community" (2011).

There Are Militating Spiritual Gates Everywhere

Our Lord Jesus recognized the power of gates and promised that they will not prevail against His own church (Matthew 16:18), but the gates can prevail over any local church that takes them for granted. Spiritual gates in communities, cities, nations and territories of this world are seriously militating against the light, life, progress, growth, peace and godliness in increasing velocity at this end time. The more reason we must rise up with our spiritual weapons to fight and nullify their nefarious activities today.

Modern Churches Neglect Spiritual Warfare

Sadly, there had risen a section of the church that teaches against spiritual warfare. They see the church from social, secular and management angles, thereby going against extensive prayers, fasting and doing battles against spiritual forces. Small wonder, that satanic agents have infiltrated and corrupted such churches from within.

Once we are ignorant or deny the reality of warfare, Satan can then take advantage.

Satan And His Cohorts Are Still Busy Working Against People And Places

Knowing that he has but a little time (Revelations 12:12), Satan and his demons are still wrecking havoc, with calamities, poverty, sickness, diseases, crime, accidents, injustices and many evils too numerous to mention in every localities, communities, cities and nations of the world. That is why each person must be alive to this warfare and take steps to prevail and overcome them in life and ministry.

God Wants Us To Overcome, Triumph And Prevail Over Every Force of Evil

God wants a victorious and prevailing people. Jesus commands the church to overcome – NIKAO – prevail and be victorious over the host of darkness, sicknesses, diseases, sin and vicititudes of life (Rev. 2:7, 11, 17, 26; 3:5, 12, 21). Each local church and her people were commanded to overcome in the territories of their lives, families and ministries. To be defeated and prevailed upon is never the will of God for our lives and churches.
