This book is a collection of biographical sketches of people we meet in churches everyday. While a true sketch is done with a pencil, these are done with a wide brush to catchthe caricatures of ourselves. It really is a unique look into the lives of church-goers, and while humorous at times, it is also far too true to be entirely comfortable.
From the author's preface:
The book is a transcript of human character, a description of a part of the life procession that is seen moving in the ecclesiastical world or that is beheld from the Church by the ministerial eye.
So the volume was composed for a purpose; that it might accomplish good for others. The author feels that the book has a mission, so he opens the window and sends it forth over the waves of the world. Whether it returns with the olive branch or never comes back, it is attended with the prayer of the writer that it may cheer and brighten the hearts of thousands of readers, and be a blessing wherever it goes.

About the author:
Beverly Francis Carradine (April 4, 1848 – April 22, 1931) was an American Methodist minister, and a leading evangelist for the holiness movement. He was a productive author, writing primarily on the subject of sanctification.
He served in the Confederate Cavalry during the American Civil War, and later in his lafe studied pharmacy and also worked in a store as a clerk and bookkeeper.
Unlike many ministers, Carradine was not converted to Christianity until the age of 26. He was licensed to preach only three months later, and continued in the service of God for the remainder of his life.
He was a prolific author, and wrote more than two dozen books. Throughout his life, he was influential in the holiness movement, and continues to be a blessing generations later.
