PEN PALS is a novel that tells the story of two women – Bernie from Newark, New Jersey and Mags from Sheffield, England – through the letters they wrote to each other as pen pals from 1955 to the present. The women age from 14 to 65 and through their letters they take us on the journey of their lives.
While PEN PALS is a work of fiction, I was inspired to write it because my mother corresponded with her own British pen pal for over 60 years, from 1947 until she passed away in 2009.
