Vladimer “Vladi” Karlovac had a queasy, sick feeling in his gut, his bowels seized up as if he had just cut open a Duran and was about to eat the rank smelling fruit. With the recent happenings in his life, he was living his Caribbean life in the throes of death threats and outright attempts on his life. After three apparent attempts to kill him in Phillipsburg, St. Maarten, there seemed to be ever-expanding evidence that gave him cause for his personal concerns and those of Raissi Kalainawai, his Hawaiian born girlfriend. After several sleepless nights, he realized that his only hope of survival was to put a long-distance wall between himself and the maniacal Caribes seeking retribution against him. Vladi hoped that such a distance would erase his identity from the minds of his pursuers. Maybe large distances and volumes of time would erase their hatred and cause them to give up their Pursuit or so he hoped. Now if he could just stay alive long enough to escape their clutches. He wanted to somehow flee to his ancestral home in Croatia, his country, his origin, and his safety. He would have to subvert the normal routes of travel from the Caribbean and across Europe; it would be too easy for the Desmonte clan to follow his trail. Hopefully, he would find safety with his family, still living in Croatia. Hopefully his pursuers would never locate him.

Or would they?
