William Makepeace Thackeray (1811 – 1863) was a famous English novelist of the 19th century. Best known for his satirical works, particularly Vanity Fair, a panoramic portrait of English society. During his literary life Thackeray was considered to be the best realistic and comic authors satirizing high society, military powers, the institution of marriage and hypocrisy. Rebecca and Rowena by Theckaray is a romantic novel published in 1850 is considered to be a parody sequel of Ivanhoe. Under the cover of a continuation of "Ivanhoe," Thackeray brings us back to Scott's well-loved group, and relates with inimitable drollery the story of Ivanhoe's ill-treatment by the fair Rowena, of his flight to Chalus and valiant achievements in the service of Cœur de Lion, of his death and resurrection, and finally of his marriage with the still lovely, still unhappy Rebecca. Theckaray shows here the pictures from battlefield in France to the Muslim Kingdom of Spain, an amazing description of areas as well as the characters and their associations is presented. A work that monopolizes the attention from the outset!
