The Second World War was in its first throes when the young Rachel Blampied went nursing against the advice of her mother and pastor. Meanwhile, Lewis Derry made the difficult decision to object to fighting in the war.

A surprising friendship grew between Lewis and Rachel who both had a common call to the mission field. From their home in New Zealand they went for training in Australia before sailing to Nigeria as Apostolic missionaries. Mission life involved many challenges, miracles and dramas for the Derry family.

Rachel and Lewis were an unlikely couple. While she was loud and expressive, Lewis tended to be quiet and contemplative. But they both had a good sense of humour.

Rachel writes openly about the events of her life. She is quick-witted and has a delightfully quirky sense of humour.
