Monty Green, a retired forensic I.T. consultant for the Metropolitan Police, is on his way to spend Easter with an old friend in Paris.  He overhears a conversation on the ferry between two truck drivers discussing their respective employers. One name brings back unhappy memories. Years before he had lost his soul mate when she was murdered. The man who ordered the killing walked free. Now that same man appears to be rich and successful and working in South West France. Monty decides it is time for justice to catch up with him. As the story unfolds it becomes apparent his choice of where he will spend his long summer break has been decided by past events and a dark comedy about retribution and murder unfolds as Monty becomes involved with others who have been abused, and worse, by the same individual.
