Rita is the forth book of the “Margaret Series” Series. Rita is living back in Cuba. Her father has just died and left her to the care of her stepmother, with whom she doesn’t get along. This book is set in the time of the Spanish-American War. When Rita learns her stepmother wants to go into a convent for the duration of the war and take Rita with her, Rita recklessly runs away to the mountains to find her brother and the Cuban Army. Over the course of the book Rita learns not to view things from a self absorbed thoughtless way. She finds out how to be responsible and caring toward others. She also exhibits bravery in challenging and dangerous situations. Much of the story is told in letters between Rita and her Relatives in the States. Illustrated
