These sermons were originally published in English in 1562 and have never been republished, indeed the first of these only exists in this English translation. They are remarkable for the circumstances they were preached in: while the city of Geneva was itself under threat of siege, Calvin encouraged his listeners by preaching from Psalm 46 and reminding them that God is their stronghold and refuge, that it is he who makes the nations to quake and we will not fear though the earth should be shaken. This edition is completely faithful to the original words and wording, with spelling updated and a few archaic words explained. Calvin's sermons are rich and edifying, and these perhaps more than usual because of the context in which they were preached.
