Proceeding from the premise that gender influences sexuality and sexual behaviour, Sex, Power and Taboo provides an interdisciplinary exploration of how gender affects HIV risk and prevention. The paradigm of HIV and AIDS research is shifted by illuminating the influence of gender ideologies, norms and power relationships on sexuality and the impact of gender on HIV risk and prevention within and outside of the Caribbean. From the diverse Caribbean and International perspectives, the contributors investigate the relationship between gender and sexuality for the academics, public health workers and advocates, and social policy makers. Sex, Power and Taboo contributes to the research-based interventions to prevent HIV infection as well as the design, implementation and evaluation of programmes addressing the AIDS epidemic.

Dorothy Roberts is the Kirkland & Ellis Professor at the Northwestern University School of Law and Faculty, and Fellow of the Institute for Policy Research. Rhoda Reddock is HEad of the Centre for Gender and Development Studies at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine. Dr Dianne Douglas is a Clinical Psychologist and Community Psychologist. Dr Sandra Reid is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Lecturer in Psychiatry at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine.
