SHADOWS ON THE TRAIL is a true story told by Paul Price of Victoria, BC about his own family's involvement with dogs and cats over the years. Nearly all of their four-footed family members have been strays and rescues. The author learns the hard way -- through the deaths of cherished Doberman pets -- that not everyone who presents themselves as a breeder is indeed a real, ethical dog breeder.
Price's stories reveal rescue networks of thousands of caring individuals and organizations, who help arrange adoptions and transport for dogs, especially those in high-kill shelters. SHADOWS ON THE TRAIL highlights the growing awareness of the pet overpopulation crisis and how millions of cats, dogs and other animals are destroyed in North America yearly. Most of these destroyed animals would make as good of a companion as any which you may have or have had over the years.
The author's plea: "Please, if you are considering adding a four-footed new member to your family, adopt a rescue companion. There are far too many animals destroyed every year to warrant buying from a pet shop, back yard breeder (BYB) or a puppy mill that supplies the pet shops."

Mr. Price has enjoyed a life long love of animals and wanted to take this chance to pay tribute to his mother. She instilled in him this love for them and the concern for their well being. He also wants this work to be a tribute to his companions who have gone to the 'Bridge'.
