Henry Boynton (1835 1905) was a Union officer, and recipient of the Medal of Honor. After the Civil War, Boynton became a correspondent with the Cincinnatti Gazette. He served in the Spanish American War, earning the title of Brigadier General, and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Boyntons Shermans Historical Raid, the Memoirs in the Light of the Record (1875) is a critique of William T. Shermans memoirs, Memoirs of General W.T. Sherman (1875). Shermans Historical Raid is broken into 20 chapters, and with Boynton citing many documents supporting the inaccuracies and injustices of Shermans which he claims.
