Silo Nine by S.J.Ford

Leslie Tatum; a dedicated officer in the USAMRIID, leads a recovery mission to a private facility, in Antarctica, operated by Herbst, a global pharmaceutical company. Her team is slaughtered by an unspeakable pathogen; the product of illicit biological warfare research. Leslie survives, only after detonating a devastating explosive fail-safe device. In the aftermath she is made a scapegoat by the corporation's lawyers, to conceal their complicity and illegal research.
Two years later she's a washed-out wreck; crippled by guilt.
Her past catches up with her when Tiryns, another corporation, and fierce rival to Herbst, wants Leslie to come and work for them. They have acquired a specimen similar to that used by Herbst in their illegal Antarctic research. They believe it's the original Patient Zero used to develop the lethal pathogen that killed Leslie's team.
Terrified, she initially declines; then relents, knowing she must confront her past to ever gain redemption and some sort of normal life.
She travels to Silo Nine - Tiryns' underground containment facility in the Red-Center of Australia. There she learns the frightening truth about Patient Zero – it's a genuine vampire, like it stepped straight out of the middle ages; handsome, charming, deadly - and attracted to her. A network of satellites project a constant cordon of sunlight – a Solar Curtain, around the vampire; containing him. He's completely contained – or so they think.

The purpose of Silo Nine - Use the vampire's blood to develop the ultimate medical breakthrough – a Panacea – a Cure-All. This creature is almost indestructible and invulnerable to everything except direct sunlight.

The vampire toys with his captors and flirts with Leslie. In the process he helps her contend with her towering guilt. Their relationship escalates into something for which she is utterly unprepared.

But the vampire isn't the only danger lurking in Silo Nine. She eventually uncovers the true intentions of the Tiryns Corporation. They prove to be way scarier than her vampire and she again faces the frightening prospect of detonating another device to prevent a viral Armageddon.

Silo Nine sizzles with intrigue, sex, horror, violence and action.
