Hannah is mourning her grandmother, Alicia, the only family she has left. Alicia Baker Murphy had led a normal life in a small Canadian city ... or had she?  Hannah digs into her grandmother’s past and discovers secrets she is not sure she really wants to know.  Along the way, Hannah discovers a half-sister and meets a new love while solving a modern day mystery. Alicia’s silver bracelet links the two women, Hannah, a skier, and Alicia, an equestrian, one in the present and one in the past.

In 1920, Alicia is sixteen, in love with an unsuitable man and found in a compromising situation with him.  Her circumstances lead her to America, Canada and Quebec and a life full of adventure with many twists and turns.  Her lover, Kurt von Wolstenholme, pops in and out of her life with regularity but the time never seems right for the two to find their happily-ever -after.

In the present, Alicia’s grand-daughter Hannah, is trying to find out about her grandmother’s life.  Her quest leads her to a ski resort in New Hampshire where she finds tales of derring-do during the Second World War amidst modern day intrigue as the peaceful ski resort becomes the scene of a murder and kidnapping.

The two women are connected by Alicia’s silver bracelet, one that Kurt gave her in 1920 and that she left to Hannah.  Each time one of the ladies touches the bracelet, the story shifts from one to the other, emphasizing their bond.
