Jimmy Goodwin, owner of the local supermarket in Brompton-in-the-Vale in the English countryside, has been in love with Alice Crocker, daughter of the town mayor, ever since they used to play cops & robbers in her grandma Brookridge’s back yard. Now, when he is finally ready to declare his undying love, he is shocked to find her in love with a London security expert, down in Brompton to shore up security of the Brookridge museum. And he’s even more shocked when he happens upon the expert stealing some of the more valuable paintings from the museum he’s been hired to protect.

Not wanting to stand in the way of Alice’s happiness, Jimmy decides to help the thief. Little does he know this one error in judgment will affect not merely his own life, but also that of Zack Zapp and Milton Burdass-Nuttall, undercover as curate and vicar on the trail of a ring of spies, and Jaxson and Saxon, local constabulary. Add in a string of murders and a long-standing feud between the Brompton Mustache Club and Beard Club and before long the rustic peace of the English countryside is but a distant memory.

This title was previously published as The Mysterious Moxie.
