This book is meant to appeal to general audiences and can be read by adults and teens of any race and gender that enjoy Jamaican culture and lifestyle. Shelby Adams (the main character) has lived in the ghetto his whole life. He observes the evil side of poverty and has smartly chosen to avoid it. With reinforcement from his mother, and protective uncle and brothers, Shelby decides to stay in school and get a proper education unlike other boys like him who were lured into joining criminal gangs as a means to survival and quick riches. Shelby's actions have received unwanted attention from members of a local gang; they report Shelby to the elusive head of the crime-gang network. Now the lives of Shelby and his mother, uncle and brothers might be in danger...
