Health is a state of complete physical well-being , mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity . This is the definition of the preamble from 1946 to the Constitution of the World Health Organization (WHO) . This WHO definition has not been amended since 1946. It implies that all the basic needs of the person are met , whether emotional , health, nutritional , social or cultural and stage of the embryo or gametes than the elderly.
It presents itself more as a goal, which some deem utopian class since , according to the studied countries , 70 to 99% of people as not being healthy or sick. According to Rene Dubos , "physical and mental state relatively free of discomfort and suffering that allows the individual to function as long as possible in the environment where chance or choice have placed " which presents health as convergence notions of autonomy and well-being.
