Francis Bret Harte was an American author and poet, who worked in a number of different professional capacities including miner, teacher, messenger and journalist before turning to full time writing in 1871.  He became famed for his short fiction featuring gold diggers.
“Tales of the Argonauts” is a volume of short sketches, published in 1875. The Argonauts are of course the gold seekers of 1849 and the years immediately following. The collection based on the childish impressions, received by the observant boy when Harte went to California in 1854.
We present you the volume of witty, sometimes heart-rending tales of frontier California. Ambrose Bierce called Harte's humor "incomparable," and the highlights of Harte's oeuvre helped establish the foundations of western American fiction. Enjoy the reading.
