This book is the second in the series and is aimed for 8 - 10 year old children and is a small chapter book to help transition the children from picture books to novels.
The main character, Abigail Andrews is an eight year old with a wild imagination. This imagination takes her on amazing adventures while she plays. Magical Doctor’s Office is the second installment of the series and starts in the play area of Doctor Swan’s office. Abby builds a castle out of blocks and before she knows it, she’s brought to Swan Kingdom. She soon learns from the trusty butler, Sam that she’s the princess of the kingdom and it’s no ordinary land. Magical swans reside there and people can absorb and use their magic.
It’s all fun until Abby learns that the swans’ magic can be used to practice black magic too. That is exactly what the Shadow Queen is doing. She is a witch who is using a spell to turn people evil one at a time. When people practice black magic, they are instantly transported to the other side of the land, known as Shadow Kingdom.
When the Shadow Queen turns Sam evil, Abby relies on his young daughter, Ella, to help her find what she needs to protect herself and save Swan Kingdom. Through twists and suspense, Abby is able to turn the spell around and defeat the Shadow Queen. Good is restored to the people and even the Shadow Queen changes.
The book ends with Abby finding herself back in Doctor Swan’s office with a mess to clean up in the play area. She has a smile on her face as she puts the blocks away and reflects on the adventure she had.
