New York homicide detective Harvey Wall had volunteered for a six-month exchange program with the Dutch police in Amsterdam. His first day on the job begins with a mind blowing discovery of a number of unusual deaths. He is teamed up with the young but intelligent Dutch detective Frank Bakker who looks and smells like an unwashed hippie. Detective Wall finally tracks down the person responsible for the gruesome killings, Karl Webber.
When Webber dies by falling into an industrial meat processing machine, Harvey Wall is convinced he can now have fun in the beautiful city. Unfortunately, the unusual deaths return, bringing with it frustration and uncertainty about what is going on both within and outside the police force he is now working for.
His attention turns to a fellow American also living in Amsterdam who may have committed a Mafia style crime. The hunt for him now makes detective Harvey Wall a target – and one he will regret.
