This is the incredible, exciting, engaging and  true historical account  of how Mormonism came into existence in the US and around the world. Today, Mormonism is the fastest growing religion in the US. The author/editor is not a Mormon (LDS) member, but the original book contained several important historical events.

The early Mormons established a thriving city in Nauvoo, Illinois. As non-Mormons moved to the city, resentments developed as the Mormon’s controlled everything including the schools. Eventually, the problems came to a head, and several Mormons were driven into a barn and assassinated. At about the same time, Joseph Smith and his brother Hyram were murdered while in jail because of practicing polygamy.

The Mormons didn’t believe in violence and could have easily defended themselves as they (considerably) outnumbered the non-Mormons. However, they could not and would not defend themselves because of their non-violence doctrines.

They realized that they needed to relocate to a western territory where they could practice their beliefs without any interference. Brigham young sent scouts out to find a new home for Mormonism, and the Salt Lake area was selected (because no one else was there).

The exodus from Nauvoo and the journey to Salt Lake by thousands of people is a story of survival and of a faith driven people. 100’s and 100’s of people died because of malnutrition, freezing temperatures, sickness and blizzards.

The following is an Excerpt from Angel Moroni where several companies of emigrants enter Salt Lake for the first time – after surviving a very dangerous trek of over 1000 miles.

As they came within hearing distance of the welcoming throng, they were singing at the top of their voices. Alongside of the carts were numerous children, all with looks of disbelief. The infirm; the old    women with babies in their arms — all struggled to keep up the pace with dignity and vitality.

The second Company lead by Daniel McArthur followed close behind. Of course,  with the carts came the wagons and the animals. Following at the rear  was another party of Lancers. As they neared the city,                all broke into song, and the citizens as well as the travelers danced their way into the city. Many of the citizens had taken over the pulling of the carts, or carrying the children in their arms, displaying such joy and exaltation for their accomplishment in conquering all obstacles and arriving at their destination with bodies and minds made tough and tenacious by the grueling experience.
