The Brethren Souls: A Novel

Raised by avid members of the spiritualistc movement, Augustus D. Fargeau ultimately grows to despise it. When he becomes overly devoted to science, he suffers a mental breakdown that reveals to him the existence of spirits in the afterlife. Guided by a group of ghosts, who call themselves "The Brethren Souls", Fargeau pursues a dangerous science to close the barrier between the scientific and the supernatural once and for all. But the further his experiments take him, the more he learns what must be sacrificed for his dark science.
