Peter Markham, the local bully stood before Kris Williams. They were standing outside the school at the end of the day.
“Something came in that your mom would love,” Peter continued. “I know you’ll want to buy it.”
Kendall and Jamie stepped up behind Peter just in time to hear the last line.
“What is it?” Kendall asked.
“It’s supposed to be an old diary,” Kris explained. “It’s from a child who crossed the plains with her family.”
He held out the book to Kendall. Peter reached forward as if to take the book back, but then changed his mind.
Jamie quickly grabbed the book and held it where both she and Kendall could see it. It was an old, leather bound book. The writing in it was old and faded in parts, but most of it could still be read.
Is the book really what Peter says it is?
