Nathaniel Hawthorne was an American novelist and short story writer. His works featuring moral allegories with a Puritan inspiration. His fiction works are considered part of the Romantic movement and, more specifically,Dark romanticism. His themes often center on the inherent evil and sin of humanity, and his works often have moral messages and deep psychological complexity. It is an allegorical short story about a man who falls asleep and dreams of a fabulous train. The train speeds the passengers from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City. The narrator and his friend, Mr. Smooth-it-away, travel together, they see a lot of horrendous sights, nevertheless, they continue traveling without a shadow of a doubt. Can the traveler and his friend pull into the end station? And which horrifying sights do they see during their trip?!
