The Magic Log Children’s Stories,Planetary Series An Illustrated Children’s Fantasy, as told by Chaco.
The story is a Fantasy about Sol the name of the sun. It is based in Old Folk Lore as recited in campfire setting generation after generation.
The Story imagines Ole Sole passing through the sky every day for gazillions of years. As Ole Sol peeks over the Eastern Horizon on this day of all days, Ole Sol decides that Ole Son is bored. After all, no one gives any attention to Ole Sol as he crosses the sky day after day, after day.
Even when Ole sol is mischievous and sends out sun spots and sun darts, Ole Sol only gets slight attention and then is forgotten all over again. Ole Sol simply can’t do enough mischief to keep the Earth’s attention. Ole Sol can’t feel sorrier for Ole Sol. Ole Sol then decides that Ole Sol needs to have some fun mixed in with Ole Sol’s mischievous days. Ole Sol, in a playful mood, begins to play hide-and-seek as Ole Sol hides behind the clouds. Ole Sol also hides behind the mountains and sometime Ole Sole tries to hide behind the Moon but then, this is not a very good hiding place for Ole Sol.
Ole Sol is now bored with these games that seem to get Ole Sol no attention because no one but no one is actually looking for Ole Sol. Everyone just takes Ole Sol for granted. Ole Sol needs to have more fun so Ole Sol thinks and then comes upon and idea. Ole Sol decides that Ole Sol needs a vacation. Before Ole Sol can change the Ole Sol mind, Ole Sol turns out the Ole Sol lights, locks the Ole Sol door and then jumps out into the Galaxy saying goodbye Moon, goodbye, Milky Way and Hello Uranus.
The earth realizes that Ole Sol is no longer shining and cries out to Ole Sol. I need Ole Sol to keep me warm so the plants can grow and the rivers can flow. I need Ole Sol for the oceans and for everything on the face of the Earth. The plants, the trees, the rivers, the ocean and the children all cry out for Ole Sol. Where oh where did Ole Sol go? The whole Earth realizes that Ole Sol is gone out of the sky as they all cry out for Ole Sol to come back.
Ole Sol hears the Ole Sol name being called and he listens and listens some more. Ole Sole decides that the Earth and everything on it needs Ole Sol after all. Ole Sol returns in loud shouts of “Welcome Back Ole Sole.” It makes him feel so good all over, more than any place else. He giggles his happy giggle, unlocks the door, turns on the Ole Sol light and Ole Sol is officially back doing what only Ole Sol can do.
The story can very well end here with everyone living happily ever after, but this is not the end of the story. If it was the end, it would not be fair to the rest of the story. There must be an application for children of all ages.
