The Death and Resurrection of Jesus

At the centre of human history stands an event, more meaningful, more significant, and more mysterious than any other: the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In all the actions and wanderings of humanity, and in all the musings about our origins and future, this event remains unparalleled. Even the pagan resurrection myths—which may at first glance appear to precede it—are no more than the first dim light of its promise; drawn from what had been written by the creator into the rhythms of the natural world: night-time and morning: winter and springtime.
Through the eyes of David the Psalmist, this book probes the meaning of Jesus’ death and resurrection: the defining and actual giving of love; the deep, true love of God the Father and Jesus. The fact that David saw this event 1000 years before it happened—even more clearly than those actually standing at Golgotha in AD 33—is central to its great mystery. Truly, the salvation won by Jesus on the cross is for all people, in all places, at all times. Indeed, the light of this saving love shines as brightly 1000 years into the past to David, as it shines 2000 years into the future to us. For the death and resurrection of Jesus is the gate of eternity, of eternal salvation, and of eternal life.
