The Education of Children

Desiderius Erasmus was a Dutch Renaissance humanist, Catholic priest, social critic, teacher, and theologian. Erasmus was a classical erudite who wrote in a pure Latin style. He was critical of the abuses within the Church. The author remained a member of the Roman Catholic Church during all his life.
“The Education of Children” concerned the issues of curriculum, teaching methods, and educational objectives. In essence, his teaching on these issues argued for a renewed accent on history, language studies and moral philosophy, as opposed to the then prepotent focus on logic and speculative sciences.
