Charles Sanders Peirce was an American philosopher, logician, mathematician, and scientist. In his work “The Fixation of Belief” he argues that the aim of inquiry is the fixation of belief, and that the scientific method is the most effective way of doing so. One of the philosophical ideas of "The Fixation of Belief" is fact, that we tend to think or believe a certain way, and draw conclusions from the facts and statements given to us, on the basis of habit -- we have thought that way before, we have walked that path before, and so our first inclination when presented with a new or similar situation is to do the same thing again. For original concepts Webster's Biographical Dictionary said in 1943 that Peirce was "now regarded as the most original thinker and greatest logician of his time."
