"The Get Away Boat is a 500 word children's picture book. Its thirty beautiful illustrations entice your child first to listen and then to read the story. The beaver dam broke and a monster wave is comming! What will and will not float? Three little lizards and an old grandpa need to figure it out fast! The book's editor, a Florida State first-grade teacher, guideded the book toward use in her classroom. To her students delight, she used it in her science unit to help teach principles of sink and float. Second and third graders loved reading it themselves and also gave the book a "thumbs up." Besides a funny story, the book also includes a CHALLENGE section that encourages discussion and independent thinking. When asked to vote on whether a paper clip would or would not float, one third grade girl announced that it would float if it were attached to a piece of paper! Some serious thinking going on here. Come along and join the fun!
