Henry Van Dyke (Nov 10, 1852 - Apr 10, 1933) was an American author, educator, and clergyman. Educated at Princeton, Van Dyke graduated from its theological seminary in 1877 and became a Presbyterian minister. The King’s High Way is a short story by Henry Van Dyke. The story is set in Belgium, overwhelmed by German hordes. Yet one little corner of kingdom remained unconquered, a little piece of land by the sea. One gray day, a tall man was walking along the coast, outside the ruined city. There was still a fire in his eyes, despite everything around seemed molded with defeat and misery, an indomitable and unbound fire, indigenous to kings. What road did the solitary monarch took, and where would it lead him and his kingdom?
