John Francis Campbell (29 December 1821 – 17 February1885) was a well-known Scottish author and specialized in Celtic studies scholar. He educated at Eton and Edinburgh. Also, he was able to speak Gaelic, Lapp, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Italian, German and Spanish. The most famous published works are Popular Tales of the West Highlands, which include 4 volumes (1860-62), and The Celtic Dragon Myth (1911). 
The Knight of the Red Shield is a fairy tale from the second volume of the Popular Tales of the West Highlands. Once The King of Eirinn had a rest before hunting with his people, warriors, nobles and other. One the most impertinent of them said,- “If someone will be able to affront the King, he must be the coolest one”. The King answered that it will be stronger than all his retinue person. At this moment a man struck the king between the mouth and the nose, and he drove out three of his teeth. What will undertake the King? Who will find such impudent one and avenge for King's humiliation?
