The Pillow Book is a story about a family in crisis. The main character named Nora Livingston is in the process of seeking a divorce from her husband, Michael. Her world is turned completely upside down, when the man she once believed was her soulmate, betrays her, with an adulterous affair. Their daughter, Angela has been complaining of being ill for quite sometime and the added stress of not knowing what is wrong with her is causing Nora to unravel. Her mother Doreen sees this and wants the best for Nora. She tells her she has something she\'s kept for her ever since Nora went off to college. It\'s Nora\'s diary, which she called her Pillow Book. Nora begins to read her old diary, and it rekindles old feelings she thought were gone. She reads about how she met her future husband, Michael back in grade school and how they planned a life together after high school. She also remembers the poem he wrote her and how they made a spiritual pack on the bridge, always to be there for each other. Her diary helps heal old wounds and she allows herself to forgive him. However, time is running out for Angela, and when Nora finally finds the right specialist for her daughter, the news is worse than expected! Now Nora is forced to either believe medicine will help her daughter, or the power of prayer; to a God she blames for taking her firstborn. She\'s reluctant to ask God for any help, but eventually comes to terms that this matter is beyond the scope of her control. She now has to choose between putting her trust in God or rejecting him once again. Nora doesn\'t see it yet, but God has other plans for Angela. Her daughter will reunite a community and inspire others to make changes in how they view the world.
