"A woman may reach for what she desires and gain it." 'Tis unjust that because Princess Bernadette is female, she cannot inherit her father's throne. She vows to become a Queen through marriage. Prince Geoffrey is her chosen bridegroom, but will they make it to the altar? (Short story, 7,080 words)
Excerpt:
"Wherefore do I find thee thus, good Col?" he asked, roaring with laughter. "Art thou undone by a wench?"
"She-devil," gasped Bernadette's assailant, who was a peasant of middling height and girth.
"If this man be your servant, I command that he be whipped!" shouted Bernadette. "For he did put rough hands on me!"
"Col, what wert thou about?" said the nobleman.
"I meant no harm. I would ha'e set her atop her stallion that stands yonder, and sent her back to whence she came. 'Tis not meet that she be here."
"My father is the King, sirrah!" said Bernadette. "I go where I like!"
"Tell me your name," said the nobleman.
