Josh Cole became a forest ranger by default. After he was hurt on the job as a city cop be applied for and was hired as a state park ranger. Josh spent nearly two years as a solo ranger but he was growing weary of being a hermit.
Suddenly his isolated world was changed. Rocky Branch State park became noticed by state officials and advertised as the place to commune with nature. They made the isolated park more accessible and that necessitated more rangers.
Enter Sharon White, Danny Taylor, and Jackson Crow. These were the three new rangers for Josh to ride herd on.
This is a love story. Love for the wilderness land and later love for a woman. Josh discovered he love both and both loves came unexpected. It is also the story of transformation for the man and change for the land he had charge of.
The rangers had to deal with a multitude of park visitors while having to deal with bears, wild hogs, and the hybrid coyote/gray wolves called coywolves. They also had to learn to deal with one another and that may have been the hardest of all to learn.
Josh and his crew struggle to protect the park from coal interests by enlisting the aid of some powerful people. They struggle to hold the line on introduced species such as wild hogs. They investigate the mysterious death of an interloper, the not so mysterious death of a poacher, put down the stories of a Big Foot like beast in the park and try to stop pot farmers while protecting the picnic baskets from hungry bears. From season to season there are not many dull moments for The Rangers.
